About SFPS
The San Francisco Psychiatric Society, a chapter of the Northern California Psychiatric Society, is driven by a mission of excellence in professional education and fun and collegiality in bi-monthly dinner-lectures. In conjunction with this, the society is dedicated to community mental health and advocacy for underserved mental health patients in the city of San Francisco.

President
Eli Merritt, M.D., is the current president of the San Francisco Psychiatric Society. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and two sons and practices in Noe Valley. What he enjoys most about SFPS is the society's collegiality and its twin missions of excellence in professional education and community building for Bay Area psychiatrists. He is a graduate of Stanford's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and formerly served for six years on Stanford's Clinical Faculty. His areas of clinical interest and specialty are the treatment of depression and anxiety, combination psychotherapy-psychopharmacology, parent-child issues, divorce, grief and loss, couples and family therapy, second opinions, and comprehensive treatment planning across the spectrum of mental health disorders.

Administrative Manager
Theresa Schmieder is the Adminstrative Manager of SFPS. She lives in San Francisco and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in counseling and psychotherapy at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Inspired by her work in a university setting counseling students and families, she developed a passion for helping patients and families suffering emotional conflict and mental illness. After graduation, she intends to open a private practice and remain actively involved in the San Francisco mental health community.
